Car rust proofing in Cluj-Napoca
Arctic Works does underbody and cavity rust proofing at its workshop in Mera, Baciu commune, a few kilometres from Cluj-Napoca. We clean the underbody with dry ice and steam, treat existing rust with DINITROL Penetrant LT, coat the whole underbody with DINITROL 4942 and inject DINITROL 4010 into the cavities. For a used car the price starts at 650 EUR without VAT, and for a new car at 550 EUR without VAT; we confirm the exact price after an on-site inspection that costs 150 lei (RON) and is deducted from the job.
What the treatment involves, step by step
We don't spray a layer of bitumen over the mud. The order matters more than the product, so we always work through the same steps.
- We remove the underbody shields, the plastic undertrays and the wheels, so we can reach the whole underbody.
- We wash the underbody with steam and hot water, then clean it with dry ice. This removes caked-on mud, salt, old protection that no longer sticks, and surface rust.
- We mask electrical connectors, hoses, bushings and joints, so the product only goes where it should.
- We apply DINITROL Penetrant LT to the remaining rust and into the seams. It creeps into gaps and drives the water out.
- We coat the whole underbody with DINITROL 4942, a thick bitumen-based layer that takes the hits from stones and salt.
- We inject DINITROL 4010 into the chassis rails, sills, crossmembers and doors with a flexible probe, without cutting into or dismantling the cavity.
- We remove the masking, refit everything and check every mounting point.
Used car or new car
On a used car, most of the work is the cleaning. Years of salt, mud and old protection have to come off, because wax won't stick to dirty metal. That is where the price difference compared with a new car comes from.
What we don't do
We don't replace panels or rebuild structurally corroded metal. If the inspection shows areas that need new metal, we tell you before the job and refer you to a body shop. The treatment slows corrosion down and keeps it under control; it doesn't make a rusty car new again.

The on-site inspection costs 150 lei and is deducted from the job if you go ahead with us.
How long it takes and how to book
The work itself takes 2-3 working days. Bookings are made by the week: we take one car for rust proofing per week, you bring it in on Monday morning, and the slot is reserved until the following Monday. You can see the free weeks on the availability page.
When you book, you pay a 500 lei deposit, at the workshop or by bank transfer. The deposit is deducted from the price of the job.
Warranty
We give a 2-year warranty on labour, on condition that you come in for the check-ups at 3, 6 and 11 months after the treatment. The check-ups are included in the price. At each check-up we spot-treat any rust that has come back. The warranty covers the labour and the treatment we applied; it doesn't cover rust coming from inside the metal (bubbling) or areas that can't physically be reached. If you miss a check-up, the warranty is lost.

It isn't mandatory, but it's the cheapest time to do it: the underbody is clean, there's no rust to stabilise, and the protection goes onto sound metal. On a used car, much of the price is the cleaning.
What warranty do I get?
2 years on labour, with check-ups at 3, 6 and 11 months, included in the price. If you skip a check-up, the warranty is void.
Does the car smell after the treatment?
Yes, for a few days. The products contain solvents that evaporate, and the smell is stronger when the car warms up.
