Car underbody sandblasting in Cluj
Alongside dry ice blasting, Arctic Works also does blasting with quartz sand. Sandblasting removes heavy rust and old protective coatings right down to the metal, where dry ice can't reach. The price is fixed: 5,000 lei plus VAT (6,050 lei with VAT) for one car's underbody, and the job takes 2-3 working days at our workshop in Mera, near Cluj-Napoca.
When you need sandblasting
Dry ice removes dirt, oil, old protection and surface rust without touching healthy metal. It won't remove thick, layered rust. For that you need an abrasive. Sandblasting makes sense when:
- the underbody has thick, layered rust over large areas;
- the car is going in for bodywork and the panel beater needs to see the real metal;
- you want to redo the protection from scratch, on clean metal, on an old or classic car.
How it works
- On-site inspection at the workshop: we look at the car on the lift and tell you whether you need sandblasting or whether dry ice is enough.
- If the car is very dirty, we wash it before blasting. The wash is billed separately, and only when it's needed.
- We sandblast the whole underbody.
- The same day we apply primer to the bare metal, so it has no time to rust.
- Then comes the DINITROL protection, which is billed separately.
If the blasting uncovers areas that need new sheet metal, we'll tell you. We don't do bodywork ourselves; you'd take the car to a body shop for that.
An example: Mercedes W124 Coupé (C124)
The first car we sandblasted was a Mercedes W124 Coupé (C124). We sandblasted the whole underbody, and the wash beforehand was billed separately. As it was our first job of this kind, we did it for 4,500 lei plus VAT, a discount on the list price of 5,000 lei plus VAT.
Quartz dust and how we protect against it
When we blast, the dust is extracted and filtered. The operator works in an air-fed blast helmet or a respirator and wears a full protective suit.
Price
Underbody sandblasting: 5,000 lei plus 21% VAT, which is 6,050 lei with VAT, per car. The price is fixed per car and covers the underbody only.
The on-site inspection costs 150 lei and is deducted from the job.

Frequently asked questions
How much does underbody sandblasting cost in Cluj?
At Arctic Works, 5,000 lei plus VAT (6,050 lei with VAT), a fixed price per car, for the underbody only. The wash beforehand, when needed, and the rust protection afterwards are paid for separately.
How long does it take?
2-3 working days.
Is sandblasting better than dry ice blasting?
They do different jobs. Sand removes heavy rust down to the metal. Dry ice cleans without touching the metal and suits an underbody with surface rust, before treatment.
Isn't sand dust dangerous?
The silica dust from quartz sand is dangerous if inhaled. That's why, when we blast, the dust is extracted and filtered, and the operator works in an air-fed helmet or a respirator and a full protective suit.
What happens to the metal after blasting?
The same day we apply primer so it doesn't rust, then comes the DINITROL protection.
Do you do bodywork too?
No. If the blasting uncovers areas that need new sheet metal, we'll tell you, and you'd take the car to a body shop for the bodywork.
