Dry ice cleaning in Cluj-Napoca
Dry ice cleaning for cars, motorcycles and auto parts at our workshop in Mera, next to Cluj-Napoca. A dry, non-abrasive method: no water, no chemicals and no blasting media to clean up afterwards.
Cleaning at -78 degrees C
Removes contaminants without residue. Ideal for engines and delicate areas.
Non-abrasive and safe
Protects paintwork and sensitive components. No risk to electronics.
No chemicals
Solid CO₂ turns straight into gas, so no secondary waste is left.
What dry ice cleaning is
Dry ice cleaning (dry ice blasting) uses compressed air to fire pellets of solid CO₂ at -78°C onto the dirty surface. The cold makes the layer of dirt brittle, and the pellets turn straight from solid into gas. No water, no chemicals and no abrasive is left to collect.
The process is dry and does not scratch, so we use it where water or sandblasting do damage: the engine bay, the underbody before rust protection, and parts with wiring or sensors.
Dry ice blasting: the same process
Dry ice blasting and dry ice cleaning are two names for the same technology. It is called blasting because the jet works like classic sandblasting, with compressed air, but instead of sand or corundum it uses dry ice pellets that vanish on impact.
Unlike sandblasting, it leaves no abrasive dust, does not change the surface profile of the metal and does not require removing wiring. Classic sandblasting remains the better choice for thick rust and for preparing metal for paint, where a rough surface is needed.
What is dry ice blasting ideal for?
- Engine bay
- Chassis and suspension
- Interior and upholstery (selective)
- Surface rust and loose old paint
- Motorcycle components
- Fine details without disassembly
Dry ice cleaning for the engine bay and underbody: how we work
The two jobs we are asked for most are cleaning the engine bay and cleaning the underbody. Both are done at our Mera workshop, with no water and no abrasive to clean up.
Engine bay
- We fire CO₂ pellets with compressed air at the engine block and the parts around it. Oil, grease and deposits come off and the pellets turn into gas, so we use no water and nothing is left to sweep up.
- The process is dry and non-conductive, so we can work around electrical parts and sensors.
- It takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending on how dirty the engine is.
Engine cleaning starts at 105.27 EUR incl. VAT (87 EUR + VAT). The configurator shows the price for your engine.
Underbody and suspension
- On a used car, cleaning the underbody is most of the job: dry ice removes caked-on mud, salt, old protection that no longer sticks, and surface rust.
- It is done before the rust-proofing treatment, because wax does not stick to dirty metal.
- Thick, layered rust needs sandblasting with sand, which we do separately.
- Full underbody protection takes 2-3 working days on average. Booking is by the week: the car is dropped off on Monday morning.
Underbody protection for used cars starts at 786.50 EUR incl. VAT (650 EUR + VAT), plus removal of the underbody panels if the car has them. The inspection costs 181.50 lei incl. VAT (150 lei + VAT) and is deducted from the work if you stay with us.
The 2-year warranty on workmanship, with checks at 3, 6 and 11 months, applies to the rust-proofing treatment, not to dry ice cleaning on its own.

Frequently asked questions
What is dry ice cleaning?
A dry, non-abrasive method: dry ice pellets at -78°C are fired at the surface with compressed air, lift the dirt and turn into gas. No water, chemicals or residue are left behind.
Is dry ice blasting the same thing?
Yes. Dry ice blasting and dry ice cleaning are names for the same process. The difference is with classic sandblasting, which is abrasive.
Is it safe for the engine and electronic components?
Yes. The process is dry and non-conductive, making it safe for sensitive components and electrical areas.
How much does dry ice cleaning cost?
The inspection costs 181.50 lei incl. VAT (150 lei + VAT) and is deducted from the service if you go ahead. Engine cleaning starts at 105.27 EUR incl.
